Manhattan: Full of Squares
Remember High School? I do sometimes, when I am jerking off and crying, simultaneously. At one point in High School, some of the boys who had previously been boring dorks suddenly became “popular.”
This didn’t mean that they had more friends than anyone else. Apparently, what it meant is that they all bought their clothes from the same stores at the mall. They would also wear white baseball caps, and tiny gold chains, for some reason. And they would grope the female popular girls, all day long, when they were not in class. They liked beer, and being tough (and steroids?). They also liked music made by black people, while also being deathly terrified of actual black people.
I see people just like this every time I go to Manhattan. I hate Manhattan. I am usually dragged to some bar in the supposedly seedy lower east side. It is apparently very “alternative” or “indie” or something. Full of hipsters, I am told.
If this is true, then hipsters are constantly dressed in business casual. The girls all wear pumps, and have perms, and occasionally have glittery things on their dresses. They like to talk about golf. The bouncers at hipster bars wear headsets, and will not let you in unless you have fancy shoes.
It is sad, that people still propagate this lie that Manhattan is some nexus of artistry and creativity. I suppose that there are possibly some fancy, rich artists, who simply became “artists” because they were too bad at maths to get into finance.
In reality, people move to Manhattan because they think that’s what they are supposed to do. They are like the white hat wearing people from my childhood. Except instead of shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch, they are buying 30$ salads and getting mad at immigrants for not driving efficiently.
I think these are the same people: Manhattan squares are just popular kids grown up. I don’t understand why anyone would want to live there, except for some brainless lemming reason. It is noisy, and expensive, and extremely difficult to even just fucking walk anywhere.
I am done with this whole writing thing. Fuck this shit.
